DIABETES CLINIC

We aim for first class attention to patients with chronic health problems such as diabetes, asthma, joint diseases, emphysema, heart disease and lipid disorders etc. 

Asthma Clinic – During normal surgery times

Full review of symptoms, causes and treatment with individually tailored management plans. 

Diabetic Clinic – Variable clinics throughout the working week 

All our diabetic patients are offered a comprehensive health check and screening programme at least annually including retinal photography to check for early eye changes. Cardiovascular risk assessment and advice on modifying risks is also given. 

Hypertension (blood pressure) – During normal surgery times 

To ensure optimal control of this important risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

Antenatal Clinics – Wednesday all day 

Midwife led check-ups throughout pregnancy – access to doctors when required. 

Pregnant ladies can self-refer to the service during the pandemic via: 

Cervical Smears – During normal surgery times 

Child Health Surveillance – Thursday morning - the Health Visitors aren't running clinics at the practice due to the latest lockdown.  The can be reached on 029 21 847 748. Access to health visitors for general advice on feeding, sleep problems etc. as well as health screening and a vaccination programme run by Dr Brooks.

Family Planning – During normal surgery times 

All the doctors in the practice are approved to give advice on family planning. 

WART CLINIC

Mental Health Support Worker - If you have new or ongoing problems with anxiety, low mood, depression or stress, then please make an appointment to discuss your problems with our mental health support worker. This can be pre-booked with the Mental Health specialist directly through your GP surgery.

Our support worker will be able to direct you to counselling and self help services, organise your starting medication if needed, and arrange onwards referral to the mental health community team.

Minor Surgery/Rheumatology/Joint Injections 

This service is led by Dr McLoughlin for the removal of skin lesions, joint and soft tissue injections, sclerotherapy to varicose veins and thread veins.  These services are also provided by other accredited clinicians working at the practice.

MSK Physiotherapists - if you have a muscle or joint problem our receptionists can book you in directly with a physiotherapist.  The primary care physio team work at 3 local practices and you can request a face-to-face or telephone appointment with them. Please ask reception for further details and to make an appointment.

 

SMOKING CESSATION

Smoking Cessation - Help Me Quit is the brand that covers all NHS stop smoking services in Wales. Help Me Quit was established in 2017 to make it easier for smokers to access NHS stop smoking support. The Welsh Government has committed to reducing the number of smokers in Wales to 16% by 2020. Despite progress, there are still over 490,000 adult smokers in Wales.

Flu Clinic

From August each year our winter flu vaccination programme commences.  We advise that everyone over 65 or with chronic illness should receive this vaccine.  Clinic times will be posted on notice boards in the surgery and also on this website prior to the clinics.

Registered patients aged 16-75 who have not been seen for 3 years may request a consultation.

Registered patients aged over 75 years who have not been seen in the previous 12 months may request a consultation (if you are unable to attend the surgery for these checks because of your medical condition a home visit may be arranged).
